Post Treatment Advice for Botox

Posted by:

Following your Botulinum Toxin Treatment, there’s quite a bit of post treatment advice that will help.

We’ve listed a check list below for your convenience.

  • Keep the injection area clean and clear of hair for the first 6 hours after treatment. If the area is washed, pat dry very gently with a soft towel. Light make-up may then be applied to the treated area
  • Do not for the FIRST FOUR HOURS after treatment:
    • Drink excessive alcohol
    • Take vigorous exercise
    • Eat hot or spicy food
    • Lean the head forward
    • Bend excessively or lie down
  • DO NOT MASSAGE THE TREATED AREA FOR AT LEAST FOUR DAYS. This could potentially move the Botulinum Toxin which may weaken non targeted muscles which may in turn cause unwanted effects such as eyebrow droop
  • Try to sleep on your back for the first week after treatment. Avoid sleeping on your face
  • Bruising can be associated with any injection sight. If bruising occurs Arnica cream is recommended. (Please follow the direction given with any product carefully)
  • When cleansing the face use very gentle movements on the treated area. Up and away from the eyes
  • Exercise the treated area hourly for two days following treatment by making expressions such as frowning and raising eyebrows. This will help the treatment be more affective by increasing the uptake of the targeted muscle groups. Do exercise the treated muscles by tensing them and relaxing them for the first hour after treatment
  • Should a minor adjustment be required you shall need to book a review appointment no less than 2 weeks and no more than 5 weeks after the initial treatment
  • Botulinum Toxin takes from 2 to 14 days to become effective. This is dependent on the strength of the muscles injected and the individual responsive
  • Although it is a rare occurrence, if you believe you may be developing an infection in the treated area, it is essential you seek medical attention at the earliest opportunity, as the consequences of a progressive infection might be serious
  • Finally, treatment with Botulinum toxin is temporary. To maintain the effects, treatment is recommended every 3 to 6 months
